The Toilet of Venus, or Harmony without Mars
January 10, 2017
My recent paintings are about life of Mars and Venus. I compare renaissance and contemporary heroes, traditional plots of classic oil paintings and up-to-day situations, where Mars is my beloved Max, I am the Venus, his wife.
This is the second painting of me in a role of Venus. The model is looking into the mirror, therefor the work is traditionally called ‘The Toilet of Venus’. My Venus admires herself and her body. The second name of the painting is ‘The Harmony without Mars’, where Harmony (Harmonia) is also a name of a daughter of Mars and Venus in mythology. I worked on it, when I was deeply pregnant and had seriously quarreled with ‘Mars’, so the Venus is blue and painted in blue like in a blue period of Picasso.
