The portrait with the canvas
June 24, 2021

100 x 120 cm, oil on canvas
The piece shows a woman climbing to the surface of the canvas through a hole. It became part of the 'All Saints' exhibition (curator: Ilona Olkonen) where I as an artist reflect on the topic of women as an author in the art world.
Just a couple of pages of history ago, women did not have access to art education and art institutions. In the modern world, the percentage of female artists presented to the general public is also small. As the anonymous feminist art group Guerrilla Girls also wondered: "Does a woman have to be nude to enter the Museum?"
My position on issues of feminism and “women's lot” is primarily sensual, revealing all the vulnerability of being a woman and an artist. The painting is inspired by the work of Lucio Fontana and Maria Lassnig.
