St. Evangelista
June 5, 2021

100 x 120 mm, oil on canvas
The image of St. Evangelista appeals to John the Evangelist.
In Renaissance paintings, he was depicted in a red drapery with a Bible in his hands, which John wrote receiving inspiration from above. The composition pays homage to Bramantino’s ‘San Giovanni Evangelista a Patmos’. His gaze is directed upward.
As ‘San Giovanni Evangelista a Patmos’, my heroine is getting inspired by the unseen infosphere. The heroine sits with a Koh-i-Noor pencil and a sketchbook as if it was a Bible, with the hand and a cigarette as if it was a praying gesture, in traditional drapes with a trendy collar.
This piece is a part of 'All Saints' exhibition (curator: Ilona Olkonen)
