Bali Workers

Size 100 H x 150 W x 3 cm, oil, canvas
I used to live in Bali for 5 months. In Neka Art Museum I saw Ari Smit's and Paul Husner's paintings. I was inspired by them a lot, and while living in Ubud village, I have been making sketches for my future paintings frequently.
This work is about female workers. In Bali mainly the women worked on the construction sites. They collected the black volcanic sand in pots and carried it on their heads. Their hands were strong, the bodies were wiry, but their heads were always held high. It was a hard work, but they accepted it was normal part of the life.
