12 best sketches for The Toilet of Venus, 2015
December 14, 2016
The sketches are the base for a series of paintings Venus, where me, pregnant, is looking into the mirror. These auto-portraits proclaim pregnancy as a symbol of sexuality and female beauty.
The second sketch turned into a painting called The Toilet of Venus, where the model was looking at herself in the mirror (like on the Manet's masterpiece). The another name of the work is Annunciation, where the model, like Virgin Mary, is learning about her pregnancy from the letter. In the painted version the glass with water was added as the symbol of pure beauty (as the vase for a flower in the Renaissance painting).
The third blue sketch turned into a canvas called Harmony without Mars. She is blue, painted also in blue (as in the Blue Picasso's period), because she is sad about the quarrel with Mars, her left husband. The second name of the painting is Harmony Without Mars, where 'Harmony' is a name of their daughter (Harmonia in mythology).
